Answer: Harmonium training is closely tied to the Indian vocal tradition. The course covers:

How does one join the Harmonium course?

Who teaches harmonium at the academy?
Answer: Harmonium training is conducted by experienced teachers under the mentorship of Dr. Anurag Mishra (PhD, BHU). The team is well-versed in both vocal and instrumental traditions.
From what age can a child begin harmonium lessons?
Answer: Children can begin harmonium from around 5 to 6 years of age. For younger learners, smaller harmoniums with fewer keys are used so the learning stays comfortable.
Can adults pick up harmonium at a later age?
Answer: Certainly — the harmonium is a beginner-friendly instrument that suits learners of any age. Several adult students between 40 and 65 are practising harmonium comfortably at Aalaap.
How much time does it take to learn harmonium well?
Answer: Progress depends on your practice. Most learners find their notes within 6 months, gain a strong grip by one year, and develop the ability to accompany singers over 2 to 3 years.
What is the weekly schedule for harmonium lessons?

Are bhajans and Bollywood pieces taught on harmonium?
Answer: Yes — alongside the classical core, students also practise bhajans, ghazals, thumri, hori, kajri and Hindi film numbers, exposing them to a wide variety of styles.
Do harmonium students get on-stage opportunities?
Answer: Yes — harmonium learners regularly participate as accompanists and soloists at the weekly Suno-Sunao stage, the annual Aarohi event and other local cultural programmes.
What stay options are available for outstation harmonium students?
Answer: Aalaap does not provide accommodation directly. Outstation students usually stay in PG facilities, rented rooms or private hostels close to our branches.

5 से 6 वर्ष की आयु से बच्चे हारमोनियम सीखना शुरू कर सकते हैं। छोटे विद्यार्थियों के लिए कम कीज़ वाले छोटे हारमोनियम पर अभ्यास कराया जाता है, ताकि उनका सीखना सहज हो।

बाहर से आने वाले विद्यार्थियों के लिए आवास की क्या व्यवस्था है?
अकादमी की अपनी आवासीय सुविधा नहीं है। दूसरे शहरों से आए विद्यार्थी आलाप की शाखाओं के निकट उपलब्ध पीजी, किराये के कमरों अथवा निजी छात्रावासों में रहकर सहजता से कक्षाएँ कर सकते हैं।
